Fixing things that are broken can be intimidating, especially in your own home, but there are plenty of easy fixes that can save you from calling for maintenance. For the big fixes Indigo Living has maintenance teams at every community. For some of the smaller concerns, here are a few things you can quickly do yourself to fix problems or avoid them entirely.

Dishwasher Maintenance

Keeping your dishwasher functioning properly is just about understanding how it works. If you know what it does and how it does it, keeping it clean and functional is a cinch. For information on function and extending the life of your dishwasher, checkout this video from our maintenance team!

Refrigerator

Whether you use it to store fresh produce or TV dinners, the refrigerator is an essential appliance in your apartment. If it isn’t keeping food cold, overstocking your fridge could be the issue! If there’s no room for the cool air to circulate, your refrigerator will have a hard time keeping food cold, also try to keep food from being all the way in the back of the fridge. The fans are in the back of most refrigerators, so if they are being blocked, you will freeze the items in the back and the front will be warm.

Washer and Dryer Cleaning

The irony of a dirty washing machine is hilarious but having a dirty washing machine is no joke! Using your washer and dryer correctly and cleaning them regularly is so easy and helpful. Make sure you clean the lint trap in your dryer and rinsing it out occasionally to get rid of buildup. Don’t close your washer door if it’s not in use (please leave it open to dry) and wipe out the bellows after each wash. Want to learn more (or wondering what a bellows is)? Checkout our friend on the maintenance team, Rob, to learn more.

Clean and Fix Your Garbage Disposal

It can get stinky and clogged, but a working disposal is great for helping with the dishes. With just a few tips and tricks, you can keep yours in top shape throughout its life (did you know you shouldn’t put rice in your disposal?). Here are a few more tips and tricks from Rob on our maintenance team to save the odor and clogging!

Unclogging the Drain

Both the sink and the shower can get clogged over time, leading to slow draining (and standing in water during your shower). Sometimes as you have to do is remove the hair buildup on the drain or use a plumbing snake to dig out the deeper clogs! If neither of these quick solutions work, it might be time to call maintenance (and get a haircut).

All these tips and tricks can save you time and solve simple problems. It is always worth a quick google search to see if there is a simple and easy way to fix your common home issues. Just remember, if the issue is big or complicated, our maintenance team is ready to help!

As a last-ditch effort, please use your Entrata Resident Portal for those big ticket items that you can’t handle tackling on your own!
